On the show today we are very lucky to host Frank Zummo, who is the drummer of rock band Sum 41 and the founder of Street Drum Corps. He is also a committed Paleo believer and general health and wellness devotee, and he will be talking to us all about managing his lifestyle (on and off the road), diet, fitness routine, and basically how he stays sane and strong as a touring musician. He has worked with EDM duo Krewella, who you might remember from a previous episode of the podcast—and you know how much we love those girls over here at PMR, so we couldn’t be more excited to welcome a friend of theirs! In our chat we go through some of Frank’s experiences and practices from his career, and he gives us some real specifics about what he has found to work for him and his needs. Frank’s story really stresses the idea that there is no excuse for not eating and exercising right, if he can do it in his busy, globetrotting schedule, most of us can find the time to stick to our plans. So if you’re looking for a bit of inspiration, an interesting story, and some rock ’n roll, listen up! We got you covered

On today’s episode we welcome Josh Trent of the Wellness Force Podcast. This is an extra special podcast that is sure to get you thinking and moving! Josh is here to talk to us all about wellness. We know we often focus on the physical aspects here at Paleo Magazine, but we also care about the mental and emotional aspects of health, and Josh talks about all of these, with the added dimension of the spirit. We chat to Josh about his childhood, the difficulties he experienced, and how all this led to him becoming a personal trainer. From there we look into the changes Josh made to become a coach and podcast host and what precipitated this switch. Josh is not afraid to open up and share his personal difficulties, which is what makes this conversation so powerful. Then we get down to the real juice of the show as Josh recounts his recent experiences on an ayahuasca retreat and how this literally changed his life. Now, Josh is not trying to tell you to do the same thing he has done, but he has seen the benefits and generously wants to share his story. Spirit quests and psychedelics are not for everyone, and Josh stresses that you need to be ready for the journey. There is a lot to take in in this episode, so strap in and let’s go!

Today on the show we welcome Dr. Nasha Winters and Jess Higgins Kelley, who collaborated on a book called The Metabolic Approach to Cancer. Jess is a Master Nutrition Therapist, consultant, teacher, writer, and nutrition education program developer. As an Oncology Nutrition Specialist for over a decade, Jess has extensive experience working with cancer clients from around the globe. Dr. Nasha has been working in the healthcare industry for 25 years. She’s a nationally board-certified naturopathic doctor, licensed acupuncturist, a practitioner of oriental medicine, and she’s a fellow of the American Board of Naturopathic Oncology. She has an incredible story: she was motivated in this area by a terminal cancer diagnosis 25 years ago, where she was given months to live.

Today she lectures all over the world, and among many other things she discusses the benefits of whole foods and nutrient-dense therapeutic ketogenic diets for cancer patients. This is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of what we cover in this interview. We also discuss the keto-at-all-costs diet, deep nutrition, fasting, sweating, the connection between sugar and cancer, adapting our diet to seasonal changes, and how we can address the unseen toxins prevalent in modern life today. The Metabolic Approach to Cancer is not just a diet book. It’s a guide to the bio-chemical science of nutrition therapy, and a big part of this book, and of our discussion here today, is patient empowerment. By the end of this episode, you will feel inspired to start learning more about your body, to get back into your body, to stand up for your body, and to no longer keep viewing it as your enemy. If you are a cancer survivor, someone who is currently undergoing cancer treatment, or are wanting to improve your health and work to prevent cancer—then this is definitely an episode you don’t want to miss.

CLICK HERE for the full transcript.

“We have to take nutrition far deeper than just saying, ‘Eat tomatoes.’” — Jess Higgins Kelley [0:10:45.1]

“The ketogenic diet is not a cure for cancer, but what it does do is it helps to destabilize those cells.” — Jess Higgins Kelley [0:18:40.1]

“We are finding that the ketogenic diet itself directly addresses all 10 of the hallmarks of cancer.” — Jess Higgins Kelley [0:36:00.1]
