This episode is dedicated to Mark Sisson's recent article in the June/July 2019 issue of Paleo Magazine titled "11 Lessons I’ve Learned About Aging Well." We're going to take a deeper look through the article and all the great wisdom that Mark shares across these 11 steps, including sleep, relationships, diet and more. Whether you get this info here on the podcast or just go straight to the source and read it in the magazine, make sure you hear what one of the greats has to say about something we all, hopefully, have to do: get older. Mark's practical attitude and learned experience goes a long way to filling in some of the gaps and myths that are expounded in today's health world. He offers a holistic and achievable framework to ensure getting older does not mean getting worse.

We break down the key concepts and the terms that you need to understand; we look at the history of the keto diet and place it in the broader discussion on fasting; we give you a brief overview of the foods that fit in with the plan and talk about what happens in the body when it enters into ketosis. In this episode we welcome Doug Smith, one of the co-founders of Paleo Pro. Doug is here to share his story and tell us all about his journey in health, entrepreneurship and how an accident in Kurdistan kickstarted the founding of this company and his most recent drive for physical and dietary consciousness. We hear about his earlier company, True Nutrition, how this paved the way for the supplement-based Paleo Pro and some of the founding principles of the company. Doug gives us a great look into his philosophy on supplements, health and diet in general, preferring a good healthy diet over massive amounts of supplements and making the argument for how supplements can help immensely in certain circumstances. We also discuss the usage of the term Paleo and how certain communities and terms can alienate customers through heavy usage of technical or specific jargon. Doug believes in a personalized and conscious approach to diet, something that he thinks is overlooked all too often. We get into the nitty gritty of Paleo Pro, some of the staple and bestselling products and also some new things to get excited about.

Remember to check out our great show sponsor, Jones Diary Farm. They've got a great lineup of certified Paleo breakfast sausage, smoked meats and bacon that deliver full, great-tasting flavor without the sugar. So you’ve heard about light therapy and now you’re wondering whether it’s just a passing fad in the world of health. Today on the podcast we speak to Scott Nelson, founder of Joovv, a company that offers red light and infrared LED light therapy through their diverse range of devices. From full body applications to portable, easy to use handheld devices, Scott shares how light therapy works at cellular level to produce an array of health benefits including improved sleep, muscle recovery, pain relief and skin regeneration, to name just a few. But before you think it’s all bogus – there is conclusive scientific research to back up these claims, and studies have shown how light therapy is successful even in the treatment of depression and jet lag. If you’ve considered going for light therapy or getting one of these devices, you'll definitely want to listen to this episode to help you make a well-informed decision.

This week’s guest is the adventurous Stephen Le, author of 100 Years of Food. This conversation is jam-packed with incredible anecdotes from Stephen’s many travels to foreign countries, including the most memorable meals he has had. Stephen tells us all about hitchhiking through Malaysia, blending in with the locals, eating insects and fermented shark, and about the chili-loving dogs in Mexico. We get serious about the dangers of eating too much of the same vegetable, how the agricultural revolution affected our nutrition, and what we can do today to combat obesity. Stephen shares what he has learned about the impact of different climates on our health, including what he has discovered about the complicated balance between too little and too much sun exposure. He gives us helpful information about knowing how much sunlight each skin type requires, why we might need more parasites around, and why our red meat intake should increase as we get older. Tune in to hear this exhilarating conversation!
