Living a full, healthy, happy, and long life might be simpler than we think. Merely thinking positively and having an upbeat attitude has huge benefits for health and longevity. Many of us tend to jump straight to the next hyped diet though, forgetting the positive consequences simple pillars like mindset, great sleep, regular exercise, and the avoidance of junk food can have on us. In this episode, we get a chance to listen to the brilliant thinking of Brad Kearns, one of the OGs of the Ancestral Health Movement. He has written books such as The Keto Reset Diet and Keto for Life with Mark Sisson which have helped get keto on the world stage and argue for its benefits in the longevity space too

This conversation with Brad is wide-ranging, and he tells us about his personal daily routines, the benefits of hormetic stressors like ice plunges, and the work he and Mark have put into their research. Mark also speaks about his podcasting work, and the amazing potential of podcasts for deep sharing, encouraging huge action and learning on the go. We chat about diet quite a bit too, and Mark weighs in on nose-to-tail, vegan, meat only and other fancy hacks, ultimately suggesting that if we get the basics right we are very close to the finish line. In the final pieces of dialogue, we get into some awesome stuff about mindset and age and hear Mark’s views about the magical power of a youthful spirit.

Conventional chiropractic readjustments are often unsuitable treatments for people who suffer from chronic pain. Today’s guest is Dr. Emily Kiberd, a chiropractor whose approach to the treatment of people with a range of symptoms extends far beyond the scope of her discipline. Dr. Kiberd has a holistic methodology, and works with functional medicine practitioners, develops comprehensive lifestyle plans and workout programs, and seeks to understand the root cause of pain and imbalances in her clients. Part of her focus is on women who are either pregnant, have autoimmune issues, want to lose weight or have Hashimoto’s.

Her treatment plan in these regards encourages women to embrace strength training and she has actually developed a specific program for this called Thyroid Strong. Dr. Kiberd joins us on the show today to speak about her diagnostic processes, workout plans, belief in the basic pillars of good health, and own process working through Hashimoto’s. She also gets into her experience with pregnancy and motherhood and talks about the lessons she has learned through the process as far as keeping her body and mind in good form. Light and eye health are an often-neglected part of our overall wellness. While many of us focus on proper nutrition, exercise, and mental health, we rarely turn attention to the impact that light has on our well-being. This, despite the role that light plays in eye strain, seasonal depression, sleep disorders, sleep function, and sleep hygiene, among many conditions. Our guest today, Andy Mant, is here to shepherd us out of the darkness and into the (safe) light. His company, BLUblox, produces a range of light-blocking glasses. Their evidence-based, research-backed products and information focus truly sets them apart.

In today’s episode, we learn more about light blocking. We discover that blocking light is far more nuanced than we are led to believe. Light exposure is context-specific and solutions must deal with people’s specific circumstances. Andy also walks us through some ways to counteract overexposure to artificial light sources. We learn more about why sunglasses and sun cream are not all that they are cracked up to be and how they are potentially doing more harm than good. While this might seem counterintuitive, Andy’s got the research to back up the claims! This is a super interesting discussion on an aspect of our health that gets far too little credit. Tune in today.

  • Wearing sunglasses and sun cream is context-specific, according to Andy.
  • Insights into melanin and how to build up a higher level in your skin.
  • Two critical studies that Andy has recently read on sunglasses and skin circadian rhythm.
